Orlen: support is needed for the production of green hydrogen in Poland

Orlen appeals for support for the production of green hydrogen, which is of key importance for the decarbonization of the industry. Grzegorz Jóźwiak, director of Orlen's hydrogen technologies and synthetic fuels office, emphasized that green hydrogen will find the greatest application in industry, bringing significant environmental and economic benefits
It is necessary to create geographical baskets that would take into account different levels of support for the production of hydrogen from renewable energy sources in different parts of Europe. He pointed out that the competitiveness of green hydrogen production is crucial to maintaining the competitiveness of the industries using this fuel, such as the refining or fertilizer industries.
Orlen's representative emphasized that hydrogen has been used in industry for a long time, but mainly in the form of gray hydrogen. Now the goal is to replace it with renewable hydrogen. It is crucial to achieve economies of scale and technological neutrality so that business can choose the most effective hydrogen production technologies.
At the regulatory level, Orlen calls for the implementation of the REDIII directive at the national level so that the goals are clear and allow for the optimal use of hydrogen in industry. Without appropriate support, the production of fertilizers and other key products in Poland may become uncompetitive, which could lead to the need to import them.
